Of Politics...

Posted by the Princess~ on
If my life was a Role playing Points getting game, or a Facebook application,

My stats would look a bit like this.

Five years ago I was a mere commentator on politics.. blindly spouting out words that were recited to me in the media over and over again. It would be foolish not to. AFter all, that is what we've been led to believe.

One year ago, I leveled up to a concious potential Voter as I registered myself as a voter in the Subang Jaya Post office.

Five months ago, I joined the Facebook community of Deny Barisan 2/3rds Majority. I would consider this as an accessory to leveling up. Like getting extra points or some cool gift. And Of course realising that there is more to politics than the STAR and RTM. In short I became an internet heckler.. only reading and talking behind an anonymous veil.

One week ago, I leveled up tremendously as I signed up to be a polling agent. I would consider that as a step where I walk the talk.

One day ago, I graduated from a internet heckler to a ceramah attendee. Wah.. what steps I have taken from 5 years ago when I wouldn't even be bothered. Anyway, I attended a ceramah in Subang Jaya by Hannah Yeoh. It was my first, and It was... Mosquitoey.. but insightful. It's HANNAH YEOH for SUBANG!

It's quite amazing that I've actually ventured so far. I'm actually quite proud of myself and I'm looking forward to more level ups and more points and collection of gifts and what nots. Care to level up with me?

9 days from today, I'll gratuate from a person who's never voted before to an ACTUAL VOTER, and on top of that a POLLING AGENT as well. Talk about a double KILL.

I'm waiting for the day when I'll get a MONSTER KILL.

^_^

p.s. sorry about the insane amounts of political slant on my posts these days.. I can't promise you any less, bu I do know that My Mulu Miri Pic tures will be up soon. I'm working on compiling them slowly.. I have far too many pictures to work with!

can't wait for that?

Penyet - Beat Malaysian Movie of the Year

Posted by the Princess~ on
Penyet the Movie.

Penyet is somewhat like Sepet.. Only different.

first of all, instead of a Malay girl named Orked, here's a Chinese Girl Named Ah Fa.. Ah Fa, is a Malaysian Chinese Girl, who suffers from the hereditary trait of being 'flat'. (everywhere??)

It begins in a small small kampung where it seems she's the only Chinese girl there. Her daddy is the Headmaster of her school there. Naturally she is shunned by her classmates as she's new and she's... Different.

Little malay boys and girls find her strange and call her names.. Names like roti canai, muka penyet, sepet, muka langgar lori... and all sorts of other varieties. The poor girl is quite upset that her face is so flat and she constantly tries to hide it.

One Boy was especially mean to her and gives her new taunts each morning when she comes to school... Like 'Jatuh ke bila bayi?' and 'Eh, muka macam buku... felat sangat!'
She especially despises him because she thinks he's AS penyet as her if not more! and secretly hits a makeshift doll of him everynight.

Her father comforts her and shows her all the pictures of all her cousins and family, saying, its okay.. everyone in the pictures are Penyet too. They laugh. Very sweet!

After a couple of years, she grows up and she's gotten used to it and it became her nickname. I guess some people CAN 'desensitised' if it becomes used enough.

She moves out of the kampung and into the city. She meets more penyet people. lol. She realises.. She's not the 'ughliest' penyet in town. There's a whole colony of them! However she dislikes these penyet boys, so she prefers the unpenyet ones. Many men of all races and penyetness try to kau her. But she will not Yield. One after another each unpenyet boy hurts her in some way. She's not happy. Then of course... she meets one super penyet Fella. lol. She really hates him, he reminds her of that boy who used to tease her.
Of course this being a show..it's NOT THAT boy ( not korean drama lah) but she falls in love with him ... ladadada...

she of course becomes some hot shot star, and never hears the name penyet again(of course lah!) People LOVE her looks~ Then in an interview, they asked her what is her nickname. She thought for a while and then she said "Penyet". She smiled.

THE END!

^_^

moral of the story? Penyetness is NOT ugliness.( there are 15milion other factors for that!) lol. But EXTREME Penyetness.. IS a FACTOR.

Politics... a taboo subject?

Posted by the Princess~ on
The general rule of thumb to strike up a conversation with another person is simple.

Talk about what Interests them, what Motivates them, and their Family, or the Weather... ;). It's not a full proof plan but it ensures that almost 90% of the time, you'll get the other person chatting away happily about their lives. This, i learnt is one of the keys of communication. Also the mirroring subject. (which today is neither the time nor place to do so)

Taboo subjects that all Communication gurus will tell you to avoid is
RELIGION, and POLITICS.

Why? Because it's something you believe wholeheartedly in, and there's usually only a MY MINDSET and YOUR MINDSET and there is no compromise. It's either one.

Religion, well mostly you can talk about it freely. I find most people can happily discuss religion in a GENERAL manner but when it comes to dissecting it, they become terribly defensive. I think that's fine because no one should have a right to put your religion down. It's great if you have your own religion.. it's great if you don't have one. But one should never impose themselvees on another.

And here we already see a problem.

Politics is almost similar. You've got one guy, who believes that he is right. That he will change the world. and that you should join him in his quest. He wants to know that you are important in his cause. That you will be rewarded. That you are part of the plan for a better future. But are you?

Every King needs his Army, His minions to do his bidding. Every King requires power. Power comes when people obey. That's what happened to, (was it?) King Charles who was beheaded.

In China long long long time ago.... they believed that Every Emperor, deserved to have their term as a reigning Emperor until soemthing horrible happens to the people and then the peopel dethrone the Emperor and a new emperor comes about (at least this is what someone told me about)

Is it time?

Anyway, the purpose of this story today, is to tell you the discussion i had with my friends. A group of us disgruntled first time voters, will be voting this upcoming election. We are absolutely entralled by this fact. So we were of course discussing how our votes would go.

One of us, was uncomfortable the whole session. She sat in her chair uncomfortably, and looked around uneasily and she walked around alot.

Later, she said, her boyfriend and his family were very for pro-barisan. And their believe is that everyone who thinks that they should vote for the opposition, no matter who it is, doesn't appreciate what they have now. They complain that they don't have this and that and whatever not, but they don't see what they already have. In short she said, they are very 'narrow-minded'.

Clearly she was upset, and was trying to keep her tone civil and she didn't want to stir up the group. So I kept my giant mouth shut then.

But is this right? can anyone care to elaborate?

IMHO, yes we have achieved alot. Yes, there are alot of things we should be grateful for. Yes our lives now are good.
But how about everyone else? Are the people who are voting the opposition narrow minded? Or are they selfish? or are they self sacrificing?

I don't know. I really don't. I don't profess to know much about politics. But at least with what information I have, I can make my own judgements.

I hope.

Police Disallow Hindraf Gathering Saturday, Says KL Police Chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Police have rejected the appeal by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) to hold their gathering at 9am Saturday in front of the Parliament building to demand for the release of several of its members who are being detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said the appeal, which was the second submitted to him by Hindraf Thursday, was rejected after finding that the organisation was not registered and that 200 children would be involved in the gathering.

Hindraf had applied for the permit on Feb 11 at the Sentul District Police Headquarters but the application was rejected, and it made an appeal to the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters.

"We fear that the safety of the children would be jeopardised and the group was also providing 30 gangsters purportedly to provide protecttion for the children...but we believe the presence of the gangsters would lead to more serious crime," he said at a press conference at his office here.

Muhammad Sabtu said stern action would be taken and the children involved would be detained and placed under the care of the Welfare Department.

As a precautionary measure, police would set up roadblocks within the Klang Valley to maintain security and prevent undesired elements from coming to create trouble.

In the operation codenamed `Ops Padam' beginning this afternoon, the roadblocks would be set up along 12 roads. They included Jalan Kuching, Jalan Duta Toll Plaza, Jalan Ipoh and Besraya Expressway and the Federal Highway.

He also said that police had detained two members of `Bersih' about 2.30pm Friday when about 50 members of the group gathered in front of the Istana Negara to hand over a protest memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"We have detained two members of the Bersih group namely Tian Chua and Jalaludin Abdul Manap for being involved in a gathering without valid permit in front of the Istana Negara this afternoon," he said.

Election Fever, letter to our PM

Posted by the Princess~ on
Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I remember when you were appointed as a Prime Minister, you gave us hope. You gave the new generation a promise that Corruption and Vice will be wiped out. You told us that you wanted a transparent government.

Mr. Prime Minister, that was 5 years ago. In an interview with News Straights Times, i was asked about the state of today's ( then 5 years ago) politics. Although I have no clue about politics, I trusted your words. I trusted that you were gonna bring an end to corruption. How wrong I was to have believed your words.

Today, 5 years later. I'm a bit older, a bit wiser. But I still want to believe. I still want to believe that at the end of every rainbow there is a pot of gold. I want to hold on to the fact that Dreams do come true.

Mr. Prime Minister, you have broken my heart. With the little wisdom, and a application called Facebook and the Internet. I can no longer believe you. I can No longer say that I hope that you will bring justice for Malaysians. I don't even know what you are doing! or have any sort of Faith in ANYTHING you say!

I'm not bothered by Racial Injustice. No. I'm not. But you know what? There are many things in YOUR life, Mr. Prime Minister that is as shady as a tree. I'm simply bothered by the fact that it is no longer a Democratic Country with fair opportunities for all. and when i say all... I don't mean ALL your contacts or whoever who you rub shoulders with.

I'm ashamed to say that I don't know what will happen to my country. But in the same breath, I want to say that I don't know what will happen to Malaysia. I hope for the BEST. I will try in my best capacity not to close my window. If not now, when?

I want to help the world, but first let me help myself.

I'm not advocating any political slogans, but know this, come this 8th March 2008, I will vote.

I will vote for a better future.

I will vote for me.

Sincerely,

the EMK

February 2008 in a nutshell.

okay, A Larger than usual Nutshell.

I'm sorry if i haven't been posting.. I know my stats has droppped tremendously! SAD!
But i've been very busy traversing around the world.

Naahhh.... nothing of that sort.

The last I left you was probably My Birthday which was roughly about one month ago.. Since then Many things has happened in the world where it warrants CHANGE and other good things to happen.. Hopefully.

Firstly, I started my Legal Aid, at AWAM. If you don't know what AWAM is, it's a NGO where they protect, counsel, provide advise, provide a shoulder to cry on, enable the public to lend their hands in giving back to the community and most of all as a feminist movement against Paternal laws that are unjust and unfair in society.

I won't go on and on about what is unjust. You and I both know what horrors exist in the world. But at least It's good that some of us help out just a bit. But the sad thing that they realise themselves is that no matter how much HELP you can give to someone AFTER they have been raped, abused, beaten, demoralised, nothing can be done to prevent this. We have... some laws.. yes.. but they are insufficient by themselves because it is the mindset, the problems in our head that PREVENT us from doing anything more.

We are sooooooo conditioned to think in one way that even if we really wanted to and Forced ourselves to think in another... we sometimes find ourselves falling back to our old ways... sometimes we think maybe we can do something for the better. But other times we're AFRAID. It's okay to be afraid. It's okay if people think.. differently of you. i know I'm afraid.. but I'm trying my best! to make people more aware of what's going on around them and what they may do to change it. I Hope, I can only hope that i can make some sort of change in the world. even it is is a small drop in the giant ocean.

Anyway, this is a February Nutshell post.
and what's February without the MOST important events?

CHINESE NEW YEAR
and
VALENTINE's DAY?

This Chinese New Year, the RAT.. brought alot of SCANDALS. lol. Poor Edison chen... ATTEMPTED suicide because of all the racy pictures released of him and his ex girlfriends/playmates/fans. It was pretty bad as the girls look horrible Drunk, or drugged... or.. in a VERYVERY obscene position. The Guy, named Kira, released the pictures slowly.. out of the 1.2k pictures promised, Kira delivered half or maybe more. He stopped when he was given the sufficient payment by a Tycoon, i.e. one of the girl who was in the scandal's Daddy.

Horrible? Yes. Deserved? I dunno.

What did it do to the world except add to more of the Porn available? I'm not quite sure. Kira said that he wanted to show the deeep dirty underbelly that is HK superstars.
I think it has been sufficiently exposed. Exposed far too much.

This Chinese New Year, i celebrated it in True CHin Family tradition.... Watching Korean Drama series and Eating NON STOP.
You've got to love Chinese New year. You can do ANYTHING in the world with the reason being it's Chinese New Year sooo.. what the heck!

Valentine's day was wonderful as I prepared tomyum spicy soup for my family and sayang, and we watched Jumpr. It's an awesome show. If you liked the Bourne Saga.. you'll love this!

Oh and Sadly I missed the Hokkien festival of Pai Tien Kong.

I was soooo tired I just pengsaneded on the bed when I reached home. I couldn't even reply msgs~

AND most importantly of all...

PARLIAMENT HAS BEEN DISSOLVED . I know.. i'ts late news. and We're gonna have the 'it seems lah' chance to vote in a new government.
Do you think taht will work?

i don't know.
Do you think havoc will ensue if BN is not voted into as Government? I have no clue.
do you think I'll be terrified if that happens?
YES! I will.

But BN has been playing the 'peace' card EVERY election. I'm fed up. If they're gonna threaten riots if they don't win. I don't think that' very democratic. It's almost tyrannical.

Sigh.. it's a sad sad world out there. and it's about to change.
